- This is a greatly improved version of FirePower, the popular new Mac
- and Power Mac screensaver.
-
- VERSION HISTORY:
-
- Version 1.5.1 (1/25/95): Runs significantly faster on older machines
- by using fixed-point rather than floating-point math (this makes only
- a slight difference on Power Macintoshes). The "Enter your password"
- dialog box now disappears after 30 seconds if no text is entered.
- Passwords are now encrypted on disk for extra protection. Menu icons
- have been added. Fixes a problem version 1.5 had in remembering the
- setting of the "Delay between launches" option. Fixes a bug that
- caused the "X" cursor to remain visible when the mouse is moved out
- of the "Don't sleep" corner in some circumstances. Fixes problems
- with a white bar that FirePower 1.5 drew at the bottom of certain
- large monitors when it was running. A problem where memory wasn't
- being freed up correctly after use in some circumstances was
- corrected.
-
- Version 1.5: Fixed a problem that prevented FirePower 1.0 from
- running correctly in some circumstances on 680x0-based machines.
- (Thanks to those who e-mailed me bug reports detailing the problem.)
- Also, greatly enhanced the fireworks display with simultaneous
- multiple explosions, faster fireworks, and new customization options,
- and used even less memory and processor time.
-
- Version 1.0: Initial release.

- ABOUT FIREPOWER:
-
- Because screen savers run all the time, non-Power Macintosh native
- screen savers running on Power Macs slow the system down--by up to 15
- percent. That's why FirePower was designed. It's a fat binary, so
- it runs in native mode on Power Macs, and it was optimized to use as
- little memory and processor time as possible--so you still enjoy the
- speed that's the reason you bought a Power Mac in the first place,
- while protecting your monitor from image burn-in. Of course,
- FirePower works fine on 680x0-based Macs, too, but you'll probably
- want to reduce the number of fireworks to speed it up.
-
- FirePower is an application, not a control panel or system extension.
- This means that it won't cause conflicts at start-up time, and that
- if you're tight on memory, you can just quit FirePower to reclaim the
- memory it uses. To install FirePower, just place it in your Startup
- Items folder. It will load itself into the background, and remain
- there--unobstusively--until you activate it or until a time period
- you specify passes.
-
- When your Mac is idle for the specified period of time, FirePower
- elegantly fades all monitors and then fills your screen (or all
- screens, if you have more than one) with multiple beautiful,
- realistic fireworks in full color. Several options are provided to
- allow you to customize the display. If you like, you can specify a
- password that users must enter in order to regain access to the
- system.
-
- There are countless screen savers out there that don't operate in
- native mode on the Power Mac, don't provide you with any options, and
- don't provide password protection--and yet, the authors expect you to
- pay upwards of $10 for them. FirePower, on the other hand, is
- completely free. It doesn't display any annoying shareware messages
- or ask you to enter any registration codes. Just drop it into your
- Startup Items folder, sit back, and watch the fireworks.
